About Griddle

Griddle is a free daily logic-puzzle site with three games - Sentinels, Eclipse and Circuit. It runs in the browser, needs no account, works offline, and every board is checked to have exactly one solution reachable without guessing.

Griddle started with a complaint. You sit down with the day’s logic puzzles, you finish them in under ten minutes, and then you are done until tomorrow. That scarcity is deliberate on the big puzzle sites. One board per game per day, and if you want more, bad luck. The fan-made alternatives will happily give you more, but most of them are slow and half-buried in pop-ups.

So we built the version we wanted. Three puzzles a day if you like the ritual of it. An Unlimited mode that never runs dry if you don’t. An archive going back to the first day we published. And a board that gets the middle of the screen, because it is the only thing you actually came here for.

Where the games come from

Sentinels, Eclipse and Circuit are our own builds of three very old pencil-puzzle ideas: placing pieces in regions, balancing a grid of two symbols, and drawing one line through everything. Rules like those belong to nobody. The names, the artwork, the code and every board we publish are ours.

What makes a board good enough

The work went into the standard, not into any one grid. We set what a fair puzzle has to be - exactly one answer, and an answer you can reason your way to without ever guessing - then built the tools that hold every board to it. Two solvers act as the bouncers: the first refuses anything with more than one answer, the second refuses anything you would have to guess at. Most boards never make it past the door. The Fair Puzzles page has the whole standard, and it is honest about where it stops.

How it is paid for

Display advertising, kept away from the board. Nothing covers the grid or the buttons you are using. The full-screen kind only ever appears between two Unlimited puzzles, and there is a hard cap on how often. Hints on the Daily cost nothing and never will. We are not going to charge you for your own streak.

What is next

Two more games are drawn up and waiting to see how the first three land. Gridlock is a sliding-block escape where your move count is scored against the shortest solution the solver can find. Patchwork is a daily shape-packing puzzle. Accounts, cloud sync and leaderboards keep coming up, but we have not promised anyone those.
